Looking for Alaska thrusts us into the perspective of Miles "Pudge" Halter who is done with his safe life at home. His whole life has been one big non-event, and his obsession with famous last words has only made him crave "the Great Perhaps" even more (Francois Rabelais, poet). He heads off to the sometimes crazy and anything-but-boring world of Culver Creek Boarding School, and his life becomes the opposite of safe. Because down the hall is Alaska Young. The gorgeous, clever, funny, sexy, self-destructive, screwed up, and utterly fascinating Alaska Young. She is an event unto herself. She pulls Pudge into her world, launches him into the Great Perhaps, and steals his heart. Then. . . After. Nothing is ever the same.

Miles strikes up a friendship with his roommate Chip "The Colonel" Martin and fellow classmate Takumi, who introduce him to the various characters around the school, including their enemies the Weekday Warriors and the dean Mr Starnes, better known by students as The Eagle. But when Miles meets The Colonel's best friend Alaska Young, her whirlwind personality leaves him smitten. Happy to have finally found a place where he belongs, it's the start of the adventure Miles has been craving.

After two students are caught breaking the rules, an expulsion ignites an escalating prank war with rival gang the Weekday Warriors, as they all try and discover who "the rat" is inside Culver Creek. Miles finds his future at the school at risk and his loyalty to his new friends tested.

It's Halloween at Culver Creek, but the real horror for Miles is Alaska setting him up on a date that ends up going horribly wrong. Meanwhile a fragile truce with the Weekday Warriors proves short lived when the rat is finally revealed and tensions rise between Miles and his friends.

Miles spends Thanksgiving with Alaska at Culver Creek, but a trip to the Colonel's home for the holiday - designed to bring everyone together - only leaves the group further apart.

After the Weekday Warriors go too far, Miles, Takumi, the Colonel and Alaska decide to reunite for revenge. After a wine soaked game of Best Day/Worst Day, new secrets are revealed and a new romance blossoms.

Miles starts dating, and Alaska isn't thrilled despite feigning indifference about the whole thing. The Colonel receives a warning about the dire consequences of the prank they pulled on the Weekday Warriors and Miles gets his first real taste of injustice.

Culver Creek grapples with a devastating tragedy, and a potential clue only leads to more questions.

The search for answers pulls the group apart, until one final prank brings them back together.
