Whales is the story of 29-year-old Maria Blix. She is a young and newly qualified psychologist full of ambitions, who is in the middle of serious career challenges when she is informed that her father has died. The message doesn't seem to affect her much, and hesitantly she travels back to her childhood kingdom of Hvaler to go to the funeral and meet the family she has hardly seen in the last ten years.
