Overview
In the summer of 1939, the model boarding school for girls Deliyanneio Parthenagogeio operates in a small provincial town. The director and philologist Mimis Metaxas is married to Despoula, in an unhappy marriage for him. Despoula comes from the Deligiannis family, which is the richest and most important in the city, and the owner of the boarding school is the brother of Agapi, Despoula's mother, Phaidon Deligiannis. "Uncle" Phaedon also owns the family property as the last male descendant with her name. Agapi is estranged from the family of her sister Cleos, who died in childbirth. On the occasion of the new school year, Phaedon invites the philologist daughter of Cleos, Zoe Madras, who is much younger than Despoula, to stay at the family mansion and teach history at school.
