Overview
From August 1945 to April 1949, the Kuomintang and the Communist Party launched a battle for Nanjing after the victory of the Anti-Japanese War. Liang Yitong, Chief of Staff of the New Second Division, accepted a special mission from the organization and concealed his wife Gao Lianghua's secret to become an undercover agent within the Kuomintang. In order to gain the trust of the Kuomintang, Liang Yitong was willing to fight hard in the tiger's den, endured the humiliation, and got engaged to the military commander Yang Ziyue, the daughter of the deputy commander of the Capital Security Command. The uprising of the U.S. Army, the Kuomintang naval warship "Chongqing", the uprising of the Capital Guard Division of Chiang Kai-shek's Royal Guards, as well as organizing student and worker movements, rescuing political prisoners, and defending the city of Nanjing played a vital role in the victory of the Cross-River Battle and the liberation of Nanjing. In order to protect the river defense map of the cross-river campaign, Liang Yitong gave his precious life.
