Overview
The story of the two-part television production brings us to Prague after 1881, where the young inventor František Křižík returns from the world to present his project to the lighting committee of the National Theatre. He is a self-confident man, yet very simple to everyone, used to acting as a scientist on the basis of direct and real evidence in the form of clear and concrete actions. In Prague, however, he gradually encounters the environment and people among whom he suddenly feels like a stranger. Under the slogan of patriotism, he finds emotional empty words, egoistic ambitions, cowardice. His desire to shine a light on the National Theater and his patriotic convictions lead him to seemingly insignificant concessions in negotiations with the bankruptcy commission; forces Křižík to reconsider the values of interpersonal relationships, values such as honor, human dignity and his social mission, forces him to make decisions with irrevocable validity for a person's character and his place in society...
