Overview
The play tells the story of a group of simple and ordinary mothers in a peaceful small village who were involved in a fratricidal civil war due to a "love between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party". They used their blood and lives to compose a tragic song of love and kindness. In the winter of 1946, Tian Gei's mother was organizing a wedding for her daughter. The groom Dabao accidentally beat the bride to death. Dabao's mother felt ashamed of Tian Gei's mother and betrothed her daughter Er Bao to Tian Gei's mother's son Tian Gei. Er Bao refused and ran away, so San Bao married Tian Gei on her sister's behalf. Li Sen, the company commander of the Eighth Route Army, went to Dabao's mother's house to recuperate. He turned out to be Tiangei's long-lost twin brother. Li Sen's mother Fang Chen came to visit Li Sen and discovered Tiangei. Faced with Tiangei's biological mother, Tiangei's mother was in great pain. Fang Chen was grateful to Tiangei's mother for her kindness in raising Tiangei. She did not recognize Tiangei and reluctantly left. During a battle, Tiangei and Fang Chen met again. Tiangei mistakenly thought that Fang Chen was going to snatch him away. Fang Chen was very resistant and Fang Chen was in great pain. At this time, news came that Li Sen had died in battle. After several fights, Tiangei's mother secretly left Tiange behind and returned to the village alone. But Fang Chen knew Tiangei's mother's pain and sent Tiangei back. In order to obtain the enemy's battle plan, Li Sen pretended to be Tian Gei and infiltrated into the enemy's interior. Unfortunately, he was discovered. At the critical moment, his mother understood the righteousness and reluctantly replaced Li Sen with Tian Gei, so that the battle plan was delivered safely, but Tian Gei gave up his young life.
