Rick finds himself in the middle of a blossoming romance; George is given the unpleasant chore of putting up a dangerous World War II mine; and three foreigners who have been adrift in a small boat for weeks are comatose when they wash up on the island.
When fix-it man Alvin Purdy contemplates retirement and leaving the island, Rick is given a job on the mainland, and George is confused about how to handle his most recent amorous experience; it appears that decisions are the norm.
