
Love & Death tells the unbelievable true story of Candy Montgomery, a 1980s Texas housewife accused of murder. Despite a loving family, a picture-perfect home, and an active presence at church, Candy is unable to shake her sense of suburban ennui. After an unexpectedly charged moment with fellow church member Allan Gore, Candy finds just the risk-taking thrill that's been missing from her life. Their ensuing, meticulously strategized affair unfolds mostly as planned – until their respective spouses, Pat and Betty, each discover their secret… and someone picks up an axe.

After a surprisingly charged moment at a church volleyball match, Candy proposes that she and Allan have an affair. Though he initially refuses, the pair soon begin strategizing their secret arrangement.

As their affair continues, Candy fears that she and Allan are at risk of breaking their first rule – no feelings. Later, Candy bristles at news that Allan and Betty have signed up for a Christian marriage retreat.

A sense of normalcy returns after Candy is forced to take stock of her own marriage, but Pat soon makes a discovery that leads him to seek answers from Sherry.

Following a grisly struggle, Candy attempts to go about her day as normal, while Allan grows concerned when his repeated calls to Betty go unanswered.

After detectives intensify their questioning, Candy retains Don Crowder as her attorney. Later, Allan admits his affair to Betty's relatives, and Pat becomes frustrated over being kept in the dark about the case.
