Overview
In 1937, the old city of Beijing ushered in an extraordinary year. In the past few years, the Qing Dynasty, which had ruled China for hundreds of years, collapsed amid the flash of swords and chaos of war, amidst the sound of foreign guns and the shouts of democracy and freedom. From then on, all the forces were like a revolving lantern. You sang and I came on stage. It was so lively. At this chaotic moment, the Japanese invaders were sharpening their swords and preparing to invade China. Wen San (played by Liu Peiqi) is a little person living at the bottom of Beijing. He had no parents since he was a child. He spent time in a beggar gang in his early years and later became a rickshaw puller. He doesn't have any lofty ideals. He just likes to drink a few sips and brag with a group of people, and his life can be regarded as roundabout. But in this turbulent era of external and internal troubles, he could not stay out of it anyway. Wen San was involved consciously or unconsciously. In the following 20 years, people from all walks of life from three religions and nine streams took turns on the stage, performing their own legendary lives in the ancient capital of Peking... This film is adapted from the original work of the same name by Duliang ("Blood Romance", "Bright Sword").
