Overview
The story takes place in Wangcheng County, Hunan Province in 1956. In order to strengthen the construction of socialist industrialization, Northeast Anshan Iron and Steel Company traveled thousands of miles to Hunan to recruit workers. Desiring to contribute more to the motherland, Lei Feng (played by Hu Jiahua), who has just turned sixteen, recommended himself and actively signed up. After arriving at Anshan Iron and Steel Co., Ltd., Lei Feng took the heaviest and most difficult job. Since he graduated from high school and was considered an educated person among the mostly illiterate workers, the organization arranged for him to be a bulldozer operator. Lei Feng is small and can only operate while standing in the cab, where he stands for a whole day. However, he never complains about being tired and is highly praised and appreciated by the factory leaders and workers. A few years later, Lei Feng realized his childhood wish and joined the People's Liberation Army and became an automobile soldier in a certain unit of the Shenyang Military Region. In the army, he helped others, worked hard and lived plainly, and used his allowance to help comrades such as Qiao Anshan (played by Sun Jianqi) who had family difficulties.
