1914 The beginning of the imperialist war. The first platoon, formed in one of the Belarusian cities, is sent to the front. The soldiers do not yet understand the social meaning of the events taking place. Only a few of them, including Makar Bobrik and Shapiro, sharply condemn the war. The former agronomist and ensign of the Giants also exhibits democratic views. The first platoon goes into battle. German gas attack. The severely depleted part is taken to the rear. Bobrik and Shapiro meet with their fellow workers, including members of the Bolshevik party organization.
