Overview
One rainy evening Don Salvatore d'Angelo meets Nottola, an orphan boy who lives alone. He begins to dedicate himself to a group of misfits. Despite the aversion of some anticlericals and some women of the town, the priest thinks of a new work for which he receives initial help from his father, who was initially against the initiative. Other aid allows him to adapt an old abandoned barracks and the number of children he provides for continues to increase. In a few fleeting moments he is overcome by discouragement and would like to give up the initiative; but immediately the love for the abandoned young people takes over. The population appreciates and admires the Children's Village, and when an arson attack devastates it, they contribute to its reconstruction. One day, however, the military authority shows up, wanting to get the barracks back; but the rush of the population, called by the lively Nottola, demonstrates the need for the now developed work and makes those responsible change their minds.
