Overview
The biographical play is dedicated to the Czech composer and music teacher Antonín Rejch (1770–1836). His life and work in the 18th and 19th centuries are closely connected with the environment of Paris. As a young man, he first went to Bonn and Hamburg, studied with Haydn in Vienna, and from 1808 worked permanently in Paris. He became a teacher of important composers of his time, H. Berlioz, Ch. Gounod, F. Liszt and others. Rejch's legacy far exceeded the borders of his native country, he left a significant mark on the development of world music... The play is based on several episodes from his life and work, which testify to the creative struggle of this homeless Czech and an eternal stranger in seemingly hospitable Paris. His complicated relationship with his mother, his beginnings in France, his educational achievements and the intrigue surrounding the premiere of his opera Natalie, his acceptance as a member of the French Academy of Sciences and Arts.
