Overview
Nikolai loses a lot of money, but does not want to pay, believing that he was deceived. The creditor sends two thugs to him - Milkum and Girya. Nikolai runs away from them. Late in the evening, he comes to the house of an old man, who recognizes him as his great-grandson and happily declares that he can now die in peace, since his heir has appeared. Milkum and Girya find Nikolai in the village during his grandfather’s wake and learn from him that the old man left an inheritance - the army treasury. The will will be announced on the seventh day, then it will become clear where the treasure is. There is a lot of gold there, which is obvious, but the will is kept by the Monk, who is not afraid of bandits and will not break his vow, and will read the text in the presence of the heir. Milkum and Girya receive an order from the owner to wait for the seventh day and not take their eyes off either Nikolai or the Monk. The owner's order will remain unfulfilled.
