Overview
In the 18th century, the Prussian major von Tellheim came to Saxony with his regiment, where he spent the winter in Bruchsall Castle. Minna von Barnhelm, Count Bruchsall's niece, runs the castle. But the villagers don't respond well to the Prussians and demand a contribution from Minna that is so high that Minna cannot possibly afford it. Von Tellheim advances the money, which he will later regret.
