The hunter Jakob Sonnleitner loves the landscape and nature of his area. The farmer manages to force Sonnleitner's dismissal, although there is no doubt that the old hunter is innocent. Sonnleitner is transferred to an area on Lake Neusiedl. His daughter Evi looks after the old territory until the new hunter arrives. The new hunter Konrad Prandtner only realizes that he is the farmer's patron child when Hochegger demands that he let a private creditor shoot a deer in the area.
