For the first time these four great musicians, each well known to jazz enthusiasts and beyond, have come together to form a jazz band that no one would have ever hoped to see. They performed on a world tour, with sold out concerts in Canada, Europe, Japan and the United States. On June 23, 1990 this extraordinary group performed two concerts at the Mellon Jazz Festival at the Philadelphia Academy, both filmed and later edited to create this video, a perfect example of their life on tour. All the songs have been selected with great care; included are “Shadow Dance,” a Dave Holland original, “Blue,” a Jack DeJohnette original, and “Cantaloupe Island,” the closing number, a 1960s Herbie Hancock number.
