Overview
In the fall of 2002, the eleven-year-old banker's son Jakob von Metzler was kidnapped. The kidnapper demands one million euros. The day after the money was handed over, Magnus Gäfgen was arrested. The kidnapper asserts several times that Jakob is still alive, but refuses to reveal the child's whereabouts for hours. Finally, the then police vice-president Wolfgang Daschner, who fears for the victim's life, decides to threaten the kidnapper with the use of direct coercion through a chief detective subordinate to him. Under the impression of this threat, Magnus Gäfgen provides the requested information about the whereabouts of the kidnap victim.
