Overview
1920s. People come to Uzbekistan from all over the country to build a canal in the Hungry Steppe and irrigate lifeless lands. Among those who arrived from Ukraine is the party organizer of the construction site, Lodyzhenko. Together with the construction manager, Said Mukhtarov, they persuade the old Russian engineer Sinyavin, a major expert in irrigation, to help the construction. The engineer does not immediately give consent - many times Uzbek rulers undertook to irrigate waterless lands, but to no avail. Even the great Ulugbek called these lands cursed.
