Overview
1950s. Construction of the Karakum Canal is underway in Turkmenistan. The fate of many of the film’s characters is closely connected with the fate of this large construction site: correspondent Koryshev, who exposes the lies of his colleague Zurabov’s ostentatious, slanderous articles; the talented young engineer Karabash, whose advanced construction methods are supported by the construction manager Ermasov; the embittered old engineer Khorev, who, out of envy of Karabash, writes denunciations to the Party Central Committee against him and Ermasov.
