Overview
The film is dedicated to poets who did not return from the war. 1940 The young poet Kolya Terentyev arrives in Moscow and soon becomes a student at the literary institute. At the first Komsomol meeting, Terentyev was nominated to the institute committee, but having learned that his parents were dispossessed, the chairman now raises the question of his stay in the Komsomol. Friends and classmates stand up for the aspiring poet, the author of a poem about the Red Commissar. In the evening, poets Vsevolod Bagritsky, Nikolai Mayorov, Pavel Kogan, Mikhail Kulchitsky perform at the institute - they will not return from the front. The guys are celebrating New Year 1941 together at Natasha’s. Lastochkin, Colin’s friend and fellow countryman, comes there for a few minutes to say goodbye before leaving for the Finnish front. The guys talk not only about life and poetry, but also about victory in the impending war...
