Overview
At the end of the 1950s, the life-hungry student Viktoria falls in love with the reserved young power engineer Hans. The two get married and only a short time later Viktoria becomes pregnant. But the freedom-loving aspiring architect feels constrained by marriage and motherhood and decides to leave her husband and daughter to go to the West. Hans, who has now also started studying and does not report his wife's flight from the Republic, is expelled from the university and receives a censure from the party. But over time he is able to rehabilitate himself and even finds new love. Viktoria, on the other hand, increasingly doubts her decision. Was it really right to leave her homeland?
