Overview
During the reign of King Beopheung of Silla, when the people responded favorably to Lee Cha-don's spread of Buddhism, traitors framed him as plotting a revolt. Lee Cha-don, who was captured before the king, prophesies that if he slit his own neck and blood came out red, he was plotting a revolt, and if white blood came out, he was truly spreading Buddhism for the good of the country. When Lee Cha-don's head was cut, white blood came out, and the king was so moved that he made Buddhism the state religion and built a stone pagoda at Baengnyulsa Temple to pray for his soul.
