Overview
Dramatized documentary about the life of moppers and their difficult and dangerous profession. Giorgos Fountas plays the old man Nikolas, who tells the young Alexander about his efforts, when he was young, to work in the sponge shop of captain Themelis, in which his cousin George was the first sponger. The fishing ways of the old spongers, the danger from divers' disease, the deaths of some intrepid lads, like George, are presented in the film as the story of old Nicholas progresses. But he also remembers how his son Giorgi was saved, who also became a sponger, since science has now advanced.
