Overview
"Amália lives with her parents, Mr. Veiga and Dona Felícia, in a mansion in Cosme Velho. They are Hermano's neighbors, whose wife Julieta, of great beauty, passed away some time ago, despite the widower worshiping her memory, as if she were still alive. Amália is courted by Dr. Teixeira, the family doctor. When the neighbors' wedding, Amália, still a girl, observed the couple's sexual relations, becoming traumatized. Now, however, the girl hears Julieta's voice and, when playing a certain song on the piano, he acquires certain psychic traits of the dead woman. Dr. Teixeira tells Amália that Hermano had met a woman at the opera, which makes the girl have nightmares. At a next social gathering at the Veiga house, Hermano is introduced to Amália, they fall in love and get married.
